Online for 30 years – now in version 4.0, rebuilt from scratch.
Like an iceberg, most of it lies below the surface: hundreds of links, neatly stored. Only what you're looking for right now comes up.
Paste an address – mainsite fetches the page's title, description and icon for you. Even faster with the browser extension: click the icon or press Alt+Shift+M.
Search finds links by title, address and description while you type, and you can add tag filters in one click – Enter opens the first result, Shift+Enter searches the web.
Put single links or whole tags into a collection and share it: with selected people, via link or publicly. Followers see new links automatically – perfect for your band, your class or new people on your team.
Pages disappear or move. mainsite checks your links regularly and shows what's no longer reachable under “Clean up” – you decide what stays.
Anyone new first needs the right links. With a shared collection, everyone has it all together from day one – and stays up to date automatically.
Intranet, time tracking, handbooks, tools: one collection called “New on the team”, and new employees follow it. Internal addresses work wherever they're reachable anyway – e.g. on the company network.
Learning platform, schedule, exercises, sources for the presentation. The teacher maintains the collection, the class follows via link – without anyone having to show their own bookmarks.
Rehearsal schedule, sheet music, sign-ups, photos. New members follow once and automatically see every new link under “New from others”.
Plenty of bookmark services have come and gone in that time. mainsite stuck around: it started as a small page for my own links, was later rewritten by hand – and now it's version 4.0, rebuilt from the ground up.
New features include collections you can share and follow, the browser extension, dead link checks and an interface that works on your phone just as well as on your computer. All the old links came along.
mainsite is a bookmark manager that runs in your browser. You keep all your bookmarks (Edge calls them favorites) in one place, organize them with tags and find them again on any device: in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, on your computer as well as on your phone.
Yes. Pocket was shut down in 2025. If you exported your Pocket data, mainsite reads the CSV file including your tags. After that you save links just as quickly – with the browser extension or by pasting the address –, organize them with tags and find them instantly with live search. Plus collections you can share. Free, no ads and no tracking.
Yes, in one step. Export your bookmarks from your browser as a file and upload it on mainsite under “Tools → Import bookmarks”. Every folder becomes a tag, and links you already have don't come in twice. You see a preview first and then confirm. It also works with Safari, Pocket and Raindrop.
Yes. Your bookmarks live on mainsite, not in a single browser. You see the same links everywhere – in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, on your computer, tablet and phone. Switch browsers or computers and everything's already there.
For 30 years. It's been rebuilt several times since; the current version 4.0 was written completely from scratch and brings collections you can share and follow, a browser extension and dead link checks. Links saved in earlier versions came along.
No. Creating an account, saving links and sharing collections is free.
Only you. Others only see collections you choose to share: with selected people, via link or publicly. Private notes on a link are stored encrypted and never shared with anyone.
Yes. Create a collection with the important links – including internal addresses like your intranet, file storage or class schedule – and share it with selected people or via link. New employees or students follow the collection and have everything in one place from day one; when a link is added, they see it automatically. Internal addresses only work where they're reachable anyway, e.g. on the company network.
With the mainsite extension for Chrome and Edge: click the icon or press Alt+Shift+M, pick a tag, done. Without the extension, just paste the address into mainsite – the page's title, description and icon are filled in automatically.
mainsite checks your links regularly. If a page is unreachable on several days or has moved, you'll see it under “Clean up” and decide yourself whether to delete the link, keep it or switch to the new address.
mainsite runs in your browser and adapts to your phone. Use “Add to Home Screen” and mainsite sits right next to your other apps, just like an app.
